List of changes introduced in this Service Pack

SP2 Major Enhancements

    GlobalLink Integration
  • Alchemy Catalyst can connect to GlobalLink Term Manager and present the translator with the glossary matches. For more information regarding integration with this software contact please contact our sales team on sales@alchemysoftware.com.

SP2 Minor Enhancements

    PowerTranslate and Active TMs
  • If Active TM functionality was invoked when the cursor was in the source field, occasionally the source segment would be populated with the target string content. This has been resolved.
  • A Translator Lite Edition can now utilise an AlchemyTM memory during Active TM lookups as well as TTKs and PPFs.
  • Support for copying and pasting strings with tags, keywords and space markers into plain text and rich text applications has been enhanced.
  • When multiple translations are presented in the Reference window, the PowerTranslate accelerator keys Ctrl++ and Ctrl +- allows the user to move through the translation units. These accelerators have also been extended to work with the + and - keys on the Numlock keypad.
  • Also it is now possible to open one of these TMs when they have a read only attribute set on the TM.

  • Analysis Expert
  • The Analysis Expert is now available in both the Localizer Edition and Translator Professional Edition.

  • Validation Expert
  • An enhancement has been made to the public file Hotkeys.xml when validating resource with hotkeys. Now allowed characters take precedence over allow_english which enables users to disallow certain letters as hotkeys e.g. tailed letters in lower case e.g. j, g, p, q, y. Once configured in the file tailed letters can then be found using the option Invalid ampersand (&) position validation option.
  • Within the String List if there is a validation error icon present, this status can now be cancelled with a double click on the icon.

  • Pseudo Translate Expert
  • Pseudo Translate - The position of the curly brackets, { & } when Pre-text characters is used is proportional to the expansion ratio and position maintained.
  • Menu accelerators no longer changing text and maintain their keyword post a Pseudo Translate.

  • Clean Up Expert
  • Extracting files during the Clean up Expert now maintains the folder structure within the TTK when extracted on disk.

  • File Support

    .NET/WPF/BAML
  • Within WPF resource an additional property <x:name> can now also be parsed
  • Character encoding is correctly preserved for certain WPF/BAML constructs for escaped characters
  • Better refresh/syncing in Visual View for BAML resources to render translated strings in Visual View.
  • Validate Expert is now correctly reporting on duplicate hotkeys when controls of a form have been inherited from another form.

  • ResX
  • Better parsing of ResX to avoid changes to Height/Width where possible when these values had not been changed by the user.
  • Special allowance made through a config file when extracting ResX with just translations updated; no co-ordinate changes extracted.

  • HTML
  • Application of keywords now applied to child script elements of HTML files i.e. JS Scripts.
  • Show all Strings and Word Counts extended to count all child elements of HTML files i.e. JS Scripts.
  • Revert extended to revert all child elements of HTML files i.e. JS Scripts.
  • HTML Encoding charset has been changed on extraction for Simplified Chinese from HZ-GB-2312 to GB2312.
  • All child script elements of HTML files i.e. JS Scripts are now cleaned up into the AlchemyTM.
  • After installing of Internet Explorer 9, the HTML selection in visual view is now functioning properly.
  • Segmentation User INI file - White space exceptions loaded correctly from INI files.

  • Users can add new extensions to the XLIFF group, previously registered as unrecognised
  • Translations added in Catalyst for empty target strings in source XLIFF file are extracted to the target nodes
  • When no visual view is available for an XLIFF file the view now shows the default XML view of the file

  • EXE/DLL
  • Complete extraction of files containing MUI sections when extracting on Windows 7/Vista.
  • The language code of the MUI is automatically changed to match the Target Language of the TTK during extraction.
  • When on Menu resources, right clicking and choosing the option to Insert hotkey will no longer Insert a duplicate hotkey.

  • XML
  • Translations maintained on previously translated multi-lingual XML segments post a Leverage
  • XML parser error on insertion correctly references the correct error column number in the error message.

  • Installation
  • Our installer software has been upgraded to InstallShield 2012 which now allows for better pre-installation checks. It can determine when UAC is enabled on the User's machine and elevate the installation rights as appropriate.

  • Keywords
  • Some memory issues when applying Locks and Keywords when using the option wholewordsfalse: on a project have been addressed
  • Better application of keywords on XLIFF files during file insertion.

  • Third Party Catalyst Automation
  • When automating Catalyst to run through Perl scripts, additional debug logging has been disabled by Catalyst.

  • Other - Miscellaneous
  • Line feeds changes for some files from CR LF to just LF no longer happening after an edit in Catalyst and extraction.
  • Statistics - Clicking on the resources in the statistics pane now updates both the Navigator tree and the String List.
  • The position of the Find and Replace dialog when moved now remains in that position upon next display
  • Swapping Languages on text files when edits made in both Source and then Target now correctly extracts the changes.
  • A renamed filename in Navigation pane is now reflected post a write of that filename to the Results window
  • User settings for Runtime Validation Expert options are remembered on next launch of the dialog.

SP1 Major Enhancements

    NEW Platform - Android
  • Catering for the rapidly growing Android platform, Catalyst now provides support for the formats native to Android. Continuing Catalyst's comprehensive level of file support, it now enables both source and binary localization processes for Android projects. In addition to working on the xml source code, Catalyst provides the strongest possible solution for multi-lingual Android packages (*.apk).
If not already installed, parse rules for Android should be loaded from Tools | Options | ezParse and importing Android.ezp from the Public Files subfolder in your Catalyst installation folder.
This enhancement is enabled with a feature entry in your license file. If you do not see Android Application Packages (*.apk) files available when inserting files, you may need to request this free update to your license file in order to use the Android functionality. Contact support@alchemysoftware.com with queries.

  • NEW Platform - MadCap Flare
  • Catalyst 9.0 SP1 goes beyond any other utility when it comes to parsing and interpreting MadCap Flare projects. In addition to providing complete support for all of the native MadCap Flare file formats, Catalyst also natively understands the project file itself (.flprj). This makes the management of MadCap Flare localization projects a simple matter.
It is not necessary for MadCap Flare to be installed in order to benefit from this feature.
If not already installed, parse rules for MadCap Flare should be loaded from Tools | Options | ezParse and importing MadCap.ezp from the Public Files subfolder in your Catalyst installation folder. The Public Files folder also contains InlineTags.txt which includes MadCap specific inline tags.

  • File Support - .Net Hybrids
  • With the evolution of .Net and the desire to reuse code where possible, software developers often create hybrid assemblies. These are assemblies containing both WPF BAML and .Net Winform resources. Support for such hybrids has been extended in this release of Catalyst such that localizing these combinations is no different from any other file type.

  • File support - 64bit .Net
  • 64 bit architecture extends many benefits to application developers, but results in new 64-bit binary images for .Net assemblies. These assemblies need special handling and are now supported using the 64 bit edition of Catalyst 9.0.

  • Leverage Expert
  • This Service Pack makes it possible to leverage just the meta-data by choosing to exclude both text and coordinates from the Leverage. Assuming a text match is found, this enhancement means locks, memos and keywords for example can be leveraged independently from their text values.
  • Improved leveraging for HTML files using full XPATH data and full attribute value lists. This affords better re-use of meta-data such as memos, locks, translation status, etc.
  • Improved leveraging performance using large TMX TMs
  • .RC file string tables -- the reliance on the position of string table entries within RC files has been removed. In addition to leveraging text, this new release of Catalyst leverages meta-data such as memos, locks and translation status based on ID matches irrespective of the segment's position within the file

  • NEW ezScript Commands
  • Cleanup Expert enabled in ezScript command line
  • Swap Source with Translated - Option enabled on command line. This feature, added to the UI in 9.0, allows the translation direction of a project file to be reversed. German files, for example, may be translated to English first as a pivot language before being translated from English to Japanese. This can be done using the swap languages option and is a big cost saver as translating from English to Japanese is much more affordable than translating from German to Japanese directly.

SP1 Minor Enhancements

    .Net File Support
  • WPF Tabcontrol with multiple tabs on a window - visual view now displays all tabs
  • .Net forms - change from string view to visual no longer changes Signed Off status to For Review on some inherited controls
  • Catalyst outputs relevant information to the results bar if user attempts to insert a delay signed assembly
  • Extraction of .Net assemblies no longer extracts non-modified keys such as $this.font = Null
  • Extracting WPF file with FileVersion different to AssemblyVersion no longer overwrites AssemblyVersion
  • ezScript Insertion of .Net files - the .Net version of the file now output to ezScriptBatchlog
  • Information regarding the presence and status of BAML resources within executables is now output to ezScriptBatchlog when inserting these files via ezScript

  • Leverage Expert and Power Translate
  • Leverage from .tm - Catalyst now selects match from parent language in preference to a non-matching sublanguage
  • Leverage now leverages translated numbers as well as text
  • Improved leverage of XLIFF Menu resources
  • Max sizes on untranslated strings - now leveraged for all resource types
  • Power Translate Revert to Original - memos now maintained
  • Entity references in a TMX file attached as Active TM now fully interpreted

  • Analysis Expert now also outputs the same XML report as UI Analysis
  • It is now possible to remove existing ezParse rules at the command line, reloading them with different ones as required for specific tasks. This is done using the /LOAD /CLEAN options.

  • Cleanup Expert and Export Project
  • Clean Up Expert now cleans up TTK to .tm when source and target language differ only in region
  • Clean Up Expert now maintains keywords from source and target strings when cleaning up to .tm file
  • TM attributes now displayed on hover over Alchemy TM files in Windows Explorer
  • Export to Alchemy TM -- XML character references now applied to memo text where required
  • Export Project to TXML - reserved XML characters exported as character references
  • Export to TMX - Remove Duplicate Strings option no longer removes lead/trail spaces

  • Recycle Translations
  • Recycle Translations on a Japanese OS optimised

  • General Performance
  • Sophisticated memory management enhancements have been added to improve user experience
  • Some Catalyst temp files were created outside the Alchemy temp folder and as a result were not deleted on exit -- addressed.
  • Deleting files from the Resource View in the Navigator tree no longer causes instability in Catalyst
  • Occasionally multiple concurrent save operations caused ttk corruption, user now prompted to wait for current save operation to finish.

  • Catalyst UI
  • Navigator window columns - Show/Hide status column settings now maintained on relaunch
  • Importing ezp file no longer causes duplicate extensions in insert files list and ezParse extensions list

  • Statistics
  • Apostrophes and bullet points no longer counted as words
