Validate Expert

 

Use the Validate Expert to verify the contents of your project. Validating checks can be processed individually or in batch by selecting it from the list displayed on the screen. The types of checks that can be used are summarised below:-

Mismatched empty string

Generates an error exception if

  • The original string is empty and the translated string is not

  • The translated string is empty but the original string is not

This check is useful when validating your TTK project Your project is where you manage and organize all the files that are to be localised. files for over/under translations.

 

Incorrect Spelling

Spell checks your translation. Alchemy CATALYST comes with several spelling dictionaries. You can select your spelling dictionary by going to the General Options dialog.

 

Clipped Text

Generates an error exception if the translation does not fit into the width and height of a dialog control.

 

Duplicate hotkeys

Generates an error exception if two or more controls share the same hotkey letter.

Overlapping Controls

Generates an error if two or more controls overlap each other on the dialog panel Generic name given to dialog boxes. A Dialog Panel is an internal CATALYST object that is used to represent dialogs from multiple development platforms. (ie .NET Windows, Desktop Dialog boxes, SmartPhone Canvas Areas, ASP+ Pages, XLIFF XML Localization Interchange File Format Frames, Oracle Forms. etc.).

 

Duplicate Accelerators

Generates an error exception if

  • An accelerator key is repeated more than once in a menu.

  • An accelerator key is repeated more than once in a dialog or winform Microsoft name for a .NET Dialog Panel..

 

Untranslated Text

Generates an error exception if

  • The source and target fields are the same and the string is marked as Leveraged, For Review or untranslated This is the default Translation Status applied to all items inserted into a Project TTK..

 

Inconsistent hotkey count

Generates an error exception if

  • The translated string contains a hotkey but the original string doesn't.

  • The original string contains a hotkey and the translated string doesn't.

 

Invalid ampersand (&) position

Generally speaking only non-shift keyboard keys should be used as accelerators. This validation test is designed to check this. It generates an error is a hot key cannot be selected by using the [ALT]+ key combination.

Inconsistent hotkey character

Generates an error exception if the translated hotkey is different to the original hotkey.

This test is useful for double-byte languages where the translated hotkeys are usually the same as the untranslated ones.

 

Inconsistent format specifiers

Format specifiers are programmatic placeholders. They are defined using the percent (%) symbol. In this test, an error exception is generated if the number of format specifiers differs between the original and translated strings. An error exception is also generated if the order of these format specifier’s change.

Inconsistent lead/trail spaces

Generates an error exception if leading and trailing spaces differ between original and translated strings.

Glossary Consistency Check

Select this test to determine if all the terms defined in your glossary are used in the translation of your project.

 

Well-formed Inline Tag Check

Select this option to determine if tags in your translation match the original tags of your project.

 

The Validate Expert displays error messages in the Results panel of the Navigator pane. Double-clicking an error message will locate the error in your project so that it can be fixed quickly.

Configuration Options

Ignore locked items

 

Select this option to exclude locked strings from any validation checks.

Ignore error if present in source

 

Select this option to omit errors that exist in both the translated and original source files.

Keywords File

 

Specify a filename containing a list of keywords that should never be translated. This keyword file is a text file containing one word or phrase per line.

Perform auto validation checks

 

Select this option to run the Validate Expert continuously during the translation process.

Show dialog prompt if error exist

 

Select this option to display a warning dialog each time errors are detected in the Translator Toolbar.
