Auto Project Division explained |
Auto Project Division explainedThe totals generated by the Division Expert's preview can greatly vary depending on the settings selected. So in order to understand the Division Expert's results I have created a TTK including 10 words each duplicated 10 times, along with 10 unique words. Download this sample TTK. The TTK includes a variety of statuses to represent a real life project in works. The contents are:
Each segment is made of 1 word, with the statistics as follows:
In the Project Division Expert, these statistics are reflected like so: Words: 110 represents (10 words repeated 10 times = 100 words) + (10 unique words) = 110 words. Translatable: With 1 repetition locked in the TTK (Orange), the translatable total is down to 100 words. Untranslated Uniques: This total accounts for 3 words (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry) for which the repetitions are not included + 10 unique words (Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lime, Nectarine, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Mango, Raspberry, Passionfruit) = 13 words Uniques (any status): This count is for any segment which is unique regardless of it's status (Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lime, Nectarine, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Mango, Raspberry, Passionfruit) = 10 Words
Let’s look at the results of the Division Expert, under Preview of sub-projects, with different settings to understand the figures. Always dividing the project into 3 sub-projects.
1- Dividing into 3 sub projects. Without grouping the duplicates into a single sub-projectWe include Untranslated and Translated segments in the Export filter options.
The translatable wordcount has been divided into 3 TTKs with repetitions grouped in each TTK as best as possible, using the Uniques segments (10 words) to even the TTK totals as best as possible. The Untranslated Uniques total accounts for the first instance of the 3 untranslated duplicates (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry) and the 10 Uniques untranslated words (Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lime, Nectarine, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Mango, Raspberry, Passionfruit).
2- Dividing into 3 sub projects. Grouping the duplicates into a single sub-project but not including the repetitions. We include Untranslated and Translated segments in the Export filter options. Selecting the option to Create a sub-project with any duplicated segment.
First the Duplicates TTK includes the 9 words which are all repeated 10 times (Apple, Pineapple, Banana, Pear, Orange, Kiwi, Melon, Strawberry, Gooseberry), but because we are not including the repetitions, the translatable count is only 9 rather than 90. The Untranslated Uniques shows 3 reflecting that only 3 of the 9 duplicated strings need translating (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry). The other 6 are either For Review, Signed off or another translated status. This leaves the 10 Uniques words which are divided into the 3 sub-projects. Respectively 4, 4 and 2 words.
3- Dividing into 3 sub projects. Grouping the duplicates into a single sub-project and including the repetitions. We include Untranslated and Translated segments in the Export filter options. Creating a sub-project with any duplicated segment including all repetitions.
For the Duplicates sub-project TTK, it is the same as the previous example however the Translatable count is 90 words because all 9 duplicated segments (Apple, Pineapple, Banana, Pear, Orange, Kiwi, Melon, Strawberry, Gooseberry) also include the repetitions. Again with only 3 of those duplicated segments requiring translation in the Untranslated Uniques total (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry). The Uniques count has changed to 0 reflecting that no segment in the Duplicates sub-project is unique. This leaves the 10 Uniques words which are divided into the 3 sub-projects. Respectively 4, 4 and 2 words.
Now let's run the same test, this time only including Untranslated segments in the division.
1- Dividing into 3 sub projects. Without grouping the duplicates into a single sub-projectWe only include Untranslated segments in the Export filter options.
The translatable wordcount divided in each sub-project represents the 3 duplicates (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry) with their 9 repetitions (10 words x3 = 30 Words) plus the 10 unique words (Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lime, Nectarine, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Mango, Raspberry, Passionfruit). For a total of 40 Translatable words. Removing the repetitions in the Untranslated Uniques total, this is 3 duplicates (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry) + 10 Uniques (Grapefruit, Mandarin, Lime, Nectarine, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Mango, Raspberry, Passionfruit) = 13 words.
2- Dividing into 3 sub projects. Grouping the duplicates into a single sub-project but not including the repetitions. We only include Untranslated segments in the Export filter options. Selecting the option to Create a sub-project with any duplicated segment.
Now the translatable wordcount is just 3, reflecting the 3 untranslated duplicates (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry) without their repetitions. Leaving the 10 Uniques words which are divided into the 3 sub-projects. Respectively 4, 4 and 2 words.
3- Dividing into 3 sub projects. Grouping the duplicates into a single sub-project and including the repetitions. We only include Untranslated segments in the Export filter options. Creating a sub-project with any duplicated segment including all repetitions.
In this final scenario, the 3 duplicated strings (Pear, Kiwi, Strawberry) are placed in the Duplicates TTK including the repetition for a total of 30 words. Of which 3 are unique. The other 10 Uniques untranslated words are divided into the 3 sub-projects. Respectively 4, 4 and 2 words.
