Solution

Navigate to ezParse in the Catalyst UI

Open Tools menu > Options > ezParse in Catalyst and you will see the form in the screen below.

Adding the file type for the parse rule

Navigate to the file type that you wish to add the rule for. For example if it is an XML based rule under the File Groups you would select 'XML Based Files'.

Next you need to see if the file extension is under the XML rules. If not you need to select 'Add..' to add the rule and then add the file extension.

If the file you wish to add a rule for is a text based file you need to select 'Text Based Files' under File Groups and then under 'File Extensions' add the new extension if it is not already present.

Add a new rule for the file type

After you have added the file extension that you wish to create the parse rule for you need to add a new rule for the file type. There will be a standard rule as default under each file type which the user can choose to modify or can choose to create a completely new rule.

To add the new rule the extension needs to be selected under 'File Extensions' and then in the Rules window you need to select the Add button.

Here give the rule that you wish to create a name and select OK.

Now you need to proceed to create a parse rule for the file.
