Installation error 1402

Issue

Error 1402. An Error occurred when running the Alchemy Catalyst installation on Windows 7 .

Error 1402. Could not open key: <Keyname>. System error <num>.

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

Solution

Click Start-->Run and type "regedit" and click OK.

Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes

Right-click on Classes and go to Permissions...  
Then click on Advanced button.  
Verify your user name is listed there and that the following checkbox is checked:

Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects.  Include these with entries explicitly defined here.

Click the OK buttons and close the registry editor and try to reinstall.
