Public files in Alchemy Catalyst

On every launch, Alchemy Catalyst copies the public files into the Public directory.

  • Windows Vista & Windows 7 = C:\Users\Public\Alchemy Software\Catalyst x.x
  • Windows XP = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Alchemy Software\Catalyst x.x

The original files are copied to the install directory (by default C:\Program Files\Alchemy Software\Catalyst 9.0\Public Files) during the installation.

During the copy of the Public files to the Public directory, a check to see if the current user has write access to the folder is made.

If the user doesn't have sufficient rights, the following message is shown and Catalyst closes.

Process

- Files are copied every time Alchemy Catalyst starts

- Files to the main Public directory are ONLY copied if they don't exist

- Files in subdirectories are copied if newer than the already existing ones (i.e. file modified date is later) or if they don't exist already

- Exception is made for files with a .pdb extension: these are NEVER copied over, as they come from Visual Studio compiling.
