Alchemy PUBLISHER and CATALYST comes with a PROMT® Machine Translation connector. This connector provides high-quality machine translation using the PROMT machine translation engine. PROMT provides machine translations in to multiple language combinations. The PROMT connector is located in the PLUGINS folder on your desktop PC and is called PromtConnector.dll.

Training the Engine

PROMT's machine translation engine is extremely robust and intuitive out-of-the-box, without any need of customization. Nevertheless, the engine can be easily trained to achieve an even better result.

For example, let's say we want to translate the sentence: "The switch on the Apple laptop is not working properly." from English in to Spanish. The out-of-the-box translation is "El interruptor en el ordenador portátil de Manzana no trabaja correctamente."

Clearly, the word, "Apple", which refers to the computer manufacturer, should not be translated. It was translated because the word, "Apple", is a common noun in the engine, the fruit that we eat. Also, let's say, for the sake of corporate preference, we prefer another translation of the word, "switch", not " interruptor", but "conmutador".

When we preserve the word, "Apple" and change the translation for the word, "switch", both of which are done with a few mouse clicks, we obtain the required translation, "El conmutador en el ordenador portátil de Apple no trabaja correctamente."
